Petrichor | rambling thoughts

"Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing."

It is times like this when I think, I am so not a writer.

It is times like this when I think, what was the last time I wrote something really meaningful, or thoughtful? Something that wasn't a status update that will be forgotten in a week, or a fleeting sentence of 140 characters? These days, it seems that ideas and stories are simply condensed into a social media update, read in 5 seconds and forgotten in 30. I recently found this related post, by Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky, which nicely addresses the idea of expressing thoughts in share-able bits, tailored down to fit social media.

I've heard that writing is like exercising a muscle; if you don't use it, you loose it. And I've lost some.

I've missed writing for my English class. Which, if you would've asked me at 10 pm the night before an essay was due, you most likely would have received a different opinion (by the way, never ask for my opinion on something after my bedtime; I become either very grumpy or ridiculously Anne-of-Green-Gables-romantic). I've missed the flow of the paragraph and the choosing of just the right word to get the right feel. I mean, I've done plenty of writing for my other classes, but they were all science classes of reports and research papers.
It's just not the same. My instructors could care less about my choice of adverbs.

So, all that rambling to say I want to write more and write better. I feel that when I post here, it shouldn't just be a few pretty pictures flung into a post with some sort of title. I'm trying to figure out how exactly this blogging thing works, what my interpretation of it is. I started this blog as a way to share my photography, so my photos weren't just sitting on my hard drive, but it feels like the photos need some words (despite the fact that a photo conveys a thousand words or however that saying goes).

What do you think, does a photography blog need more than photos?
